IS IT FAY-NIGHTS, FAY NIGHTS OR FAYNIGHTS?

In principle it appears they mean the same.
As a child I was told - all disputes/disagreements must end before bedtime, two fingers on each hand were crossed and fay-nights was called.
WHY!  fay (n) literary fairy or goddess of destiny + nights = darkness or retire to sleep.
By the Author of Fay-nights (ISBN 978 1 904 17709 8) Why not read it?
