Rascals Softplay (New Malden)

I’ve been taking my daughter to a soft play centre (it was called Cheeky Monkeys) in New Malden (near Motspur Park Station) for the past year - on average I go there at least once a week. It has just changed management and re-opened under the new name of “Rascals Softplay”. The facilities are nearly exactly the same as before the name change - indoors there is a big bouncy castle, ball pit, various ride-ons, couple of slides, Little Tikes kitchen, a separate baby area with some bouncy chairs and playmats, and other bits and bobs to keep the kids entertained. Outdoors is only open when the weather is nice enough for it and then there is usually a selection of ride-ons, slides, and Little Tikes cars for the children to play with. The only very noticeable change is that they have extended the hours to close at 3pm Mon-Fri - not open on weekends. The website is http://www.rascalssoftplay.co.uk. It’s a really lovely play centre situated in the Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Park - lots of free parking there - it’s not huge and can get very busy on a Thursday and Friday morning in particular, but if things get a bit hectic there is always the option of walking around the corner (2 mins) to the children’s park where there are several slides, swings and other climbing apparatus to keep them busy.

How stressful is it trying to come up with interesting ways to entertain our little kiddiewinks in this freezing weather?!!! I know I’ve made a couple of posts about Eddie Catz because it is local to me and I think it’s a really good place to go to let the kids expel some energy (no, they are not paying me to advertise for them - haha!), but if you know of any other places that you would recommend - or places to avoid - then please do write about them in this forum. xxx

Bocketts Farm (Leatherhead)

Yesterday my hubby and I took our 2 year old to Bocketts Farm, near Leatherhead in Surrey (near junction 9 or the M25). What a wonderful day out! The farm is completely geared for families and children of all ages. You can buy a bag of animal feed for the rabbits, chicks, and sheep. They have piglet races, tractor rides and animal handling sessions. There is so much to do with lots of indoor and outdoor play areas, trampolines, pony rides (over 3’s only) and a lovely tea room with great food.

We thought it was reasonably priced in comparison to some of the other local attractions like Chessington and Legoland. For entry and lunch for the three of us, we paid about £40 in total.

If you live in South West London or within easy travelling distance of Richmond park, I thoroughly recommend going to the Isabella Plantation. I have been a few times with my toddler and she has really enjoyed it. It is a beautiful woodland garden in the middle of the park with a few ponds with many ducks that love being fed. Walking through the little paths lined by gorgeous bushes and flowers, it smells gorgeous. Recently, we took a little picnic and bread for the ducks and had a wonderful afternoon sitting in the sun.

Meet the Pet Awards virtual puppy! Let us know what you think…

Hi

I’m Michelle and I’m working with Boomerang TV.

This Summer, Boomerang are holding the Pet Awards - a star-studded event in London’s Regent’s Park to celebrate all things fantastic about pets.

As part of the awards, Boomerang have created a virtual puppy. The puppy is a desktop game featuring a cartoon dog, designed to be educational and encourage children to be responsible for a pet; they have to feed, train and exercise the puppy on a daily basis.

Children will get more points for having a healthy and happy puppy. Towards the end of August they’ll then be able to enter their puppy into the pet awards and potentially win tickets to the actual awards in September. We thought some of the mums with primary school aged children might be interested in the virtual puppy.

It’d be great to hear your thoughts and feedback about this. You can download the puppy at http://www.boomerangtv.co.uk/advertising_microsites/azanimals/index.html?cmpid=AZmay09halftermBoomCENTRE

Many thanks and please let me know if you have any questions or would like help downloading the puppy.

Michelle

I went to Eddie Catz in Wimbledon/Colliers Wood recently and was pleasantly surprised! The first time I went there was ages ago and it was a Saturday morning (when it was raining). As you can imagine, it was packed and we had to queue to get in. There were so may kids there that I didn’t find it very enjoyable and I avoided going again until a friend suggested recently that I meet her there. We went mid-week in the morning so it wasn’t busy and both my friend and I and our toddlers had a fantastic time! I would recommend it if you go during ‘off-peak’ times.

Can you help… Hopefully this is a quick and easy question - what do other dads do with their kids whether it be during the week after work or weekends?

I do the usual things park, play in the garden, those kids play places but getting a bit bored of that (her not me!) - my little one is a toddler so unfortunately Alton Towers or other fun things like that are out at the moment (although I cant wait till she’s old enough for theme parks!)

Thanks any advice would be great .
