This Charming Man - Marian Keyes

I’m a real Marian Keyes fan - have read most of her other books. Just finished reading “This Charming Man” - her latest novel. It’s written from the perspective of four different women who all have a connection to the same man. As their stories unfold, you learn about all of their little secrets and how things aren’t what they seem to be.

I love Marian Keyes’ writing style. She has such a clever sense of humour. Really enjoyed it this book! For me it was a real page turner and I’m slightly relieved I’ve finished reading it so I can get some early nights as I’ve had to literally tear myself away from its pages each night.

Children’s stories read from a machine! Versus: Stories read in a book.

Case for the Machine: WHAT DO YOU THINK? Case for the book: Some words cry out for paper to make them remembered. The words.... “I am here.” When spoken will raise the spirit, make the load more bearable, whilst bringing a beaming smile to the speaker and receiver of the words. ACT ONE: A tired confused child’s mind was eased into a peaceful slumber by the words of his father, reading from a story book. “Once upon a time.... And finally, just as the youngster’s eyes close, I am here.” The father’s sincere words were spoken with a depth of understanding, are never forgotten. ACT TWO: Years later.... Returning home from his local watering-hole a father feels slightly ‘not with it’ after partaken in one drink too many. A young son hears the gate bang and rushes to the door greeting his father, whose face was bright red, sporting a fixed-like grin. The lad just looked. His dad removes his best jacket with extreme care, as he proceeded to hang it on the coat hook. He misses and his jacket cascades to the floor. Again the father tries, this time finds the hook with his hand. Yet, his jacket ends up on the floor. A father looks confused as he mutters, “Who’s moved the coat hook?” a son just smiles, as he picks up the jacket and hangs it up. Silent was the lad who took his father’s hand and guided him up the stairs. Helps him into bed and smoothed his dad’s forehead as he gently tucked the bed-covers around him. When morning came a father awakes to find his son sitting nearby, he had been there all night reading a story book. The lad smiled at his dad, as he whispered, “I am here.... I am here.” THE END - copyright 2004 Miggy (author of Fay-nights)

IS IT FAY-NIGHTS, FAY NIGHTS OR FAYNIGHTS?

In principle it appears they mean the same.
As a child I was told - all disputes/disagreements must end before bedtime, two fingers on each hand were crossed and fay-nights was called.
WHY! fay (n) literary fairy or goddess of destiny + nights = darkness or retire to sleep.
By the Author of Fay-nights (ISBN 978 1 904 17709 8) Why not read it?
Remember you heard it first on Kidzthings.
Kind regards, Miggy J Noble

Twilight Series (Stephenie Meyer)

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really much of a reader and a book has to really grab my attention in the first few pages or I usually can’t find the motivation to continue with it. Then along came the TWILIGHT SERIES! At the risk of sounding like a completely obsessed fanatic, I totally LOVE this series of books. I have never come across a writer or story before that has so totally gripped my attention from the first page of the book. I just couldn’t put the first book down - to the extent that as soon as I had finished it, I had to know what happened next so I ordered the rest of the series from Amazon (and I have never ordered fiction books from anywhere before - usually I just read other people’s used copies that they have recommended!). Ordinarily a TV addict, I would forego my usual nightly TV viewing so that I could read my Twilight books! And my husband loved the books just as much. The crowning moment of my obsession: as soon as I realised a movie had been made of the first book, I pre-ordered it (wasn’t available to buy yet) and had it delivered as soon as it was possible. I have watched Twilight (the movie) twice...and can’t wait to see the sequel, New Moon, which will be in cinemas later this year.

Incidentally, I have also read Stephenie Meyer’s other book (not related to the Twilight series), called The Host. It took me a bit longer to get into this one as the beginning is a little confusing but, once you get past the first chapter, everything becomes clearer and then, like her other books, it becomes hard to put the it down.

To find out more about the books, see Stephenie’s website: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilightseries.html

All of the books can be bought at http://www.amazon.co.uk or most high street book stores. Enjoy reading and do let me know what you think!
