I found this really cool website where you can create your own free avatar (little profile picture to the left of this message under my name!). Go to http://www.doppelme.com - I had so much fun trying to create one that looked vaguely like me.

Once you’ve created the avatar, click on the option to get the “quick code” on the Doppelme website. If you then right-click with your mouse on the image you want, you can save it to somewhere on your computer. Then log-in to Kidz Things, go to your ‘Control Panel’ and click on ‘Edit Avatar’. Here you can upload the image you have saved by clicking on the browse button to locate it on your PC. Save it, and that’s it! If you want to create an avatar but can’t figure out from my instructions how to upload it on your KT profile, then PM me and I’ll see if I can explain it a bit better! Enjoy!

Bullying is an unpleasent experience at any age. We only seem to hear of it in the news when something tragic happens as a result of it. I was reading an artcle about one incident the other day and I kept asking myself why this keeps happening, particularly to children.

Why is it that some kids become bullies?

Why do some kids become the target of bullies?

These are just a couple of questions which I am sure do not have simple answers. I was fortunate not to have experienced this myself in the direct sense and I wonder if anyone can enlighten me.

I would be most grateful for any information that might help me to understand this better.

My little boy is going to be 3yrs soon and all anybody ever asks me is “when are you having number two?”!!! All I can say is ‘not at the moment’. Truth is i don’t know if i want a number 2. I found the whole experience of number one really difficult and i don’t know if i want to go through it all again. but there is this overwhelming guilt element - guilt that the grandparents desperately want another one, but mostly guilt that my son will grow up without any siblings. so what do i do? I feel like i’m being really selfish about the whole thing and should just give in to the peer pressure and have another one now before the age difference between the two is really huge. Anybody else in this situation?
I found this poem quite by chance and it made me think. Adults often think that kids today take things for granted. If they do, perhaps we should ask ourselves where they learned to be this way. Are we sometimes a little hard on kids and expect too much? Do we sometimes forget that we are meant to help and guide them to be better than ourselves?

What House Do You Live In?

“I got two A’s,” the small boy cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very bluntly asked,
“Why didn’t you get three?”

“Mom. I’ve got the dishes done!”
The girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
“And did you sweep the floor?”

“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy said,
“And put the mower away!”
His father asked him, with a shrug.
“Did you clean off the clay?”

The children in the house next door
Seem happy and content.
The same things happened over there,
But this is how it went:

“I got two A’s,” the small boy cried,
His voice was filled with glee.
His father proudly said, “That’s great!
I’m glad you live with me!”

“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done!
The girl called from the door.
Her mother smiled and softly said.
“Each day I love you more.”

“I’ve mowed the grass.” the tall boy said.
“And put the mower away!”
His father answered with much joy.
“You’ve made my happy day!”

Children deserve a little praise
For tasks they’re asked to do
If they’re to lead a happy life.
So much depends on you.

Kind words and a little praise cost nothing but can mean so much to a child, of any age. They may reward you by regarding you as not just their parent but also their friend.

Hey everybody,

Just wanted to wish everyone a really happy Easter. I’m a bit concerned about my potential chocolate intake over the next few days - how on earth will I do enough exercise to stop it moving me up a dress size?! But hey, it’s the one time of the year when it would be downright wrong not to partake in a bit of chocolate over-indulgence!

I hope the weather holds up on Sunday so that we can all have some fun with the kids - Easter egg hunts in the garden, etc.! Enjoy!
