Hi Kidz Things members and visitors!

I know it’s a cliche but kids really do say and do the funniest things sometimes - usually at the most inappropriate moments - I guess that’s often what makes it so funny!  You will see in our blog section that we have a competition to find the funniest story about your kids (or your friend’s kids, your grandchildren, god-children...it doesn’t matter what your relationship is to the children as long as you were there when the hilarious event happened!).  At the end of July, we will vote on the post that made us giggle the most and that lucky member will receive a wonderful gift hamper worth £200!!!

The hamper includes the following:

For your tummy…
* Thorntons Classic Chocolate Selection (yummy - I might keep these wink )
For your house…
* Agent Provocateur Candle (it smells heavenly)
For your handbag…
* Agent Provocateur 5ml EDP (x2 - fits in your handbag)
For your skin…
* Agent Provocateur Maitresse Finishing Balm (so decadent)
* Elizabeth Arden Skin Protectant
* Avon Magic Face Perfector
Make-up…
* Revlon Custom Creations Foundation (new)
* Clarins Wonder Waterproof Mascara
* Ruby & Millie Cheek Colour
* No. 7 Mulberry Lipstick
For the boys…
* Beckam Signature EDT 50ml
* Usher Skin After Shave Soother

So get posting NOW to be in with a chance to win the lovely prize but, more importantly, so we can all have a really good laugh at your anecdote!  You can post as many different stories as you like - as long as they are all FUNNY!!!!!

I thought I would get the ball rolling, but I’m obviously not going to give the PRIZE to myself (hmmm...tempting though!).  This is the first story that springs to mind, although I’m sure I’ll think of other better ones later on…

We were visiting friends for lunch a few weeks ago with our 2yr old daughter in tow.  Our hosts are really great with kids, although they don’t have any of their own yet.  They had been entertaining Mic all afternoon (my husband and I were loving that, of course - more time for us to tuck into the delicious snacks and lunch!), when at one point in the afternoon Mic was kneeling on the sitting room floor with our female friend, Jeanette*.  Jeanette is, um, much more voluptuous than I am and Mic seemed to suddenly notice her ample cleavage as it was at her head height.  Mic cupped her hand to one side of Jeanette’s chest, then cupped the other side, as if doing a bit of an experiment, and then when she figured out what they were she proudly announced to us all: “boobies!”.  red face  At first my hubby and I were silent, not sure how our friend would feel about being felt up by our toddler, but then simultaneously we all broke out into uncontrollable laughter!  We all had tears streaming down our faces by the time we could stop giggling and Mic was suitably impressed that she had been so entertaining to her audience!  grin

I was thinking about the times when my daughter makes me laugh and realised that actually the things I often find the most funny are not that amusing at the time they happen - they’re usually really embarrasing - it’s only when I recount what happened later that I really have a good giggle about it!  Think about the times when kids have found absolutely the best (I mean of course ‘the worst’) moment to tell you they need to poo or they do the loudest fart in a room full of silent witnesses.

My daughter was potty training a few months back and every time we had friends over for lunch she just had to do a really big poo in the potty (which is in our dining room as it’s the best position downstairs for it) whenever we would be in the middle of eating.  Most of our friends don’t have their own children yet so they weren’t as relaxed about this ‘new’ experience as other parents might be!  red face  My husband and I laughed about it afterwards, but obviously were mortified at the time.

The other thing I am finding really comical right now is my daughter’s explanations for why she has done something.  Bear in mind she is not yet 2-and-a-half but her speech is good and she does come out with some really funny answers to “why did you do that?”.  Tantrums can be really funny too, although obviously the worst time to laugh because it just encourages her.  Often my hubby has to leave the room just so he and I can compose ourselves so we don’t let Mic see how amusing her little display of independence is for us!

Anyhow, maybe that will help to get you thinking of something funny to share with us at Kidz Things!  I can see lots of you are looking at the competition but no one has been brave enough to tell us a story yet!  Please don’t make me give the hamper to myself gulp  Get posting with a funny story or general anecdote about how amusing the kids you know are so you can be in with a chance to win!

Matt comes out with some howlers.  The worst one was the day we took him to look round his school before he started nursery, and he discovered the computer in the classroom (having two IT geeks for parents, it wasn’t really surprising).  He didn’t realise it was switched off so he was wiggling the mouse before declaring to the teacher “bloody crap computer”.  We all froze and the teacher just said “wow, he likes computers doesn’t he.” Oops, no idea where he got that from!

The other funny one from school was a few weeks into his first term there.  You all have to queue up at the gate until the teacher comes to unlock it.  It was a Friday afternoon and the usual teacher didn’t appear, so Matthew asked where she was.  The other teacher said “oh, Mrs K is probably at home with her feet up, she doesn’t work Fridays”.  The following Friday there we were again, and the other teacher appeared at the gate.  Matthew declared in a very loud voice “Mrs K isn’t here today, she’s lying on her back with her legs in the air”.  Queue much sniggering from all other parents.

Oh I just remembered another one…

We were in Tesco at the check out and Matthew was sitting in the trolley seat - as a very tall 4.5 year old he’s probably a bit big for it now but it’s the only way I can control him (am not looking forward to the day when he’s too big to fit in).  Anyway, all the shopping was on the conveyor and I had a packet of Always on there (you know, the sanitary towels).  The check out lady picked them up to scan them and Matthew told her “they’re my mummy’s nappies.  She doesn’t have a willy”.

Yeah, thanks for that Matthew.

Well, I’ve been trying to think of something funny, but as my 2 year old daughter, Katie isn’t much of a conversationalist yet, it was quite difficult.  However, something which tickled me the other night was when I had put her to bed and I could hear her messing around in her room.  I went upstairs to see what she was doing and had a chat with her and told her it was time to calm down/go to sleep etc.  As I was leaving the room, she pulled the duvet up over her head and I heard a little voice say, ‘mummy, dark - help!’.

The other thing wasn’t regarding Katie, but a little girl called Elly who befriended me at playgroup.  I think she was 3 but was a tiny little thing and was chatting away asking me all sorts of questions (I think she was trying to get to Katie’s dolly, who she liked the look of!).  As the toys were being tidied away I said, ‘I think we’ve got to go into the other room and do some singing in a minute - what’s your favourite song?’.  I could see her little brain ticking away.  ‘Twinkle, twinkle little star?’ I suggested.  ‘No, Poker face (by Lady Gaga)’ she replied.  I cracked up - what do I know about the musical tastes of toddlers these days?!
